Thrill, chill and spooky stories pt. 2: The ghosts of Villa Caboto

What brings together a beautiful villa and a terrible crime? A very good ghost story!
Come with us and take a walk in the beautiful, little town of Mondello: there, among the many Liberty villas, there is one with a special, spooky, story to tell!

The ghosts of Villa Caboto

Many stories surround the origins of this haunted property, but one thing is true: of all the people who lived there since those terrible events, none of them last enough to call the villa “home”.

We are in the 40’s. Picture yourself in a room filled with beautiful girls, laughter, maybe smell of cigarettes and some half-full glasses of something around. Maybe there is some music coming from a radio and all around, much higher voices.

Yes, because apparently, in those years, Villa Caboto was a house of pleasure where German soldiers used to have a good time away from war.
Unfortunately for them though, war found them in the shape of a group of American soldiers who slaughter them in the villa one by one together with all the girls who where there.

Some, however, tell a much sour story: during World War II the villa was thought to be a military headquarter where an unknown number of soldiers has been taken captive, heavily tortured and in many cases brutally killed.

From that moment on, their souls are wandering around the halls, screaming and making awful noises, although it is the ghost of a young woman sitting in the front of the villa’s stairs that saddens (and terrifies) the most.

Apparently, the origin of this paranormal events could be also the death of a young woman who fell in love with a man against her father’s will. As his daughter refused to marry the man he chose for her, he decided one day to set on fire the room where the two lovers where meeting, killing them both. From that moment on, the ghost of the young woman is sitting on the villa’s stairs, waiting for her lover to come back to her.

Whatever the origin of such paranormal activities is, one thing is for sure: since the 80’s the house has been unsold and it is to this day left to rot.
Many say that you can still hear voices coming from the villa and some swear that they have been slapped and heavily beaten by invisible hands while walking too close to the building. Others tell the story of the last tenants, who all died under mysterious (and brutal) circumstances.

Everybody, however, agree on one thing: some places are better to be left alone.
